Starting small–
For founder Dr.V.SrinivasaGiri, it has been an uphill challenge growing the company from the ground up. Being a mechanical engineer with design experience, he decided to start a firm with like-minded individuals. The first three years were what defined them as a brand, as there were a lot of challenges that needed to be dealt with from the get go. Challenges ranging from market penetration to sales concepts, made them refine their business model further. In their 4th year, they finally claimed the market and placed their stamp on the industry. They created new facilities and introduced high tech solutions to cater to international markets. They’re now a 9001:2000 certified company, with samples being supplied to European and American pump distributors.
What really helped grow their brand was the sampling initiative. They would supply pump sets in smaller quantities across the world, which helped in getting the word out. The US market started to appreciate the quality manufacturing and they gave Hydro more business than before. Their focus on R&D also paid returns as they could now venture out to more markets and exceed expectations.
Certifications and awards–
Hydro Prokav Pumps has been awarded with the BS EN ISO 14001:2008 certification for its continued efforts in enhancing Design and Development. Chief among other awards have been the 2012-13- highest growth award in exports by EEPC India, 2013-14-star performance award by EEPCIndia southern region, FIEO Top Multi Product Exporter in Southern Region[Gold] Award, FIEO Regional Export Award for the year 2015-16 under the category of Top MSME Exporter in Southern Region (Silver), and 2016-17 EEPC Star Performer Export Excellence Award as well.
Challenges along the journey–
There were many challenges that they had to face early on, and the first three years the founders couldn’t take home a decent pay. They wanted to ensure that they were taking care of all their employees before taking a cent out of the account. Some of the client-side challenges early on were that payments were not being received from domestic clients. Bankers also didn’t support them at first, as they were still in the expansion phase of their development. However, payment from overseas clients helped them offset their domestic worries. The business was launched with an initial investment of 15 Lacs, and today they have grown to a turnover of more than 40 Crores.
Working through industry challenges–
Some of the benefits of being a participant in this industry are cost effective labor and staff that are easily available as a part of the talent pool. The legal system is effective and there are participants that believe in high quality manufacturing. Some of the pitfalls include power and water availability, costlier transportation and logistics solutions, and lower labor productivity.
Helping change lives -
Lion.Dr.V.SRINIVASA GIRI – CEO of Hydro Prokav Pumps India Pvt Ltd has undertaken multiple CSR activities that include blood camps, diabetic screening, cancer awareness programs, etc. Along with that, they’ve participated actively in the Swachh Bharath movement, and built toilets for young girls in panchayat schools in the country.
